I just finished reading 'Delphi CookBook Second Edition' and I'm really, really satisfied. The style of the book is represented by a pragmatic approach, including solutions to real problems in the form of 'recipes' (IMHO the best way, because it goes beyond what the normal documentation can provide). So it is possible to view the full power of Delphi and at the same time, see how it can put into practice for the solution of real problems. This book is an advanced level guide that covers all the key parts of Delphi linked to programming. You will read about Style, RTL, RTTI, Firemonkey, PPL, HTTP Native Library etc. But above all: how they can solve multithreading problems, how use specific platform features, how use it to query and build RESTFul services, etc.

In conclusion, these recipes are big treasures because they represent a perfect mix: a problem, a minimum theoretical. UPDATE (after some months): I find myself spending more and more time in the different books and it is becoming my main reference on certain topics. I'm upping my rate from a 3 star to a 4 star. The 1 star missing is only because of the font size issue I still have on my Kindle.

It's just happening on Part 1 and 2. The good::-) After years of moving on from programming, I decided to get back into it using Delphi XE2. These books are ideal for someone like me who just need that little nudge and recap, as well as one who would like to catch up on what happened since Delphi 7:-) That said, do not under estimate the series as it covers a lot of good topics. Now for the bad::-( I bought these books to read them on my Kindle. Before proceeding with my review, you may want to read this other review by Simon J Stuart which provides a good overview of what you can find in the book. I also received a review copy from the publisher, and I’m glad I requested one!
Overall impression The book uses a great pattern, where a topic is introduced, code is shown to demonstrate it, explanations and observations about the technique are discussed, and suggestions for additional usage or other resources are provided. This “explore more” section of the book may actually be its most valuable part, because Daniele provides specific links that point to good resources to use for each of the recipes covered. The code examples are useful and as concise as is reasonable. The order of the book is logical and does a good job of building on some of the previous recipes in.
